WARREN COUNTY — On Monday at 6:51 p.m. Warren County deputies were dispatched to 7831 Hunt Club Drive, Deerfield Township for a well-being check. After several minutes of repeated attempts to check the welfare of the resident, the front door opened and gunfire erupted when the suspect shot at a deputy sheriff standing on the front porch, according to a news release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Sara Vaught, who was not injured after being shot at, immediately returned fire, striking the suspect several times, the WCSO reported.

Deputies on scene secured the residence and began performing lifesaving measures on the suspect, who is currently in critical but stable condition at an area hospital.

Deputy Vaught has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2014 and is assigned to Deerfield Township as a patrol deputy. She holds many additional roles within our agency to include Crime Scene Unit and Field Training Officer. She is currently on administrative leave as defined by policy, while the investigation is underway.

We anticipate several charges being filed against the suspect today and will update accordingly, the WCSO reported.
