CCHD scheduling vaccinations for ages 16 and up; virus variant ID’d locally; also, CCHD resumes children’s immunizations

WILMINGTON – The Clinton County Health District is now scheduling for COVID-19 vaccination appointments for all Clinton County residents 16 years old and older.

Of the 1,400 COVID immunizations being given by the CCHD this week, there are approximately 120 appointment times available on Friday, March 26. Gov. Mike DeWine has authorized the CCHD to schedule anyone 16+ to fill remaining time slots this week.

Currently, the CCHD is providing only the Pfizer brand of COVID vaccine — a two-dose vaccine given three weeks or greater apart. There is no maximum threshold requirement between the two doses. Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine approved for individuals as young as 16 years old.

How to register

Eligible Clinton County residents may register in two ways online OR by phone as we continue to accommodate our citizens not comfortable with electronic technology:

1. Online at: https://www.bookclintoncovidvax.timetap.com/#/

2. By phone: Call (937) 382-3829 and follow the message prompts

Appointments may be immediately scheduled online at the link above. Additional dates and time slots will be added as vaccine supply becomes available. Check back often.

Virus variant

The CCHD was notified Monday afternoon by state health officials that a COVID-19 case within Clinton County has been identified as a “variant of concern” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) based on genetic sequencing. However, current vaccines are effective against it, according to the CCHD.

This notification confirms what has been suspected by the leveling off of the decrease in the number of cases in the Southwest Ohio region over the last few week. These variants are of concern due to their increased transmissibility, or their ability to spread quickly.

The CCHD strongly urges continuation of the use of facial coverings, social distancing, handwashing, and staying home when sick to reduce spread until everyone is vaccinated who wants or can be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Children’s immunizations

CCHD has now resumed our children’s immunization program on a limited basis and by appointment only by calling (937) 382-7221, ext. 125. No walk-ins appointments are available.
