The 2021 Cowan Lake Paddlesport Race is upcoming.

WILMINGTON —The 2021 Cowan Lake Paddlesport Race — 6-mile and 3-mile canoe/kayak/SUP races —will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 18 at the Cowan Lake State Park Public Beach at 1021 Yankee Road.

It is presented by the Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park organization with volunteer help by the Cowan Lake Sailing Association.

These are United States Canoe Association (USCA) sanctioned races and open to the public; first-time racers are welcome. It is a Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park (FCC) sponsored event with volunteer help provided by the Cowan Lake Sailing Assocation (CLSA).

New for 2021 is the Adult/Youth Canoe Class: Canoes, paddles and PFDs can be provided at no extra charge. Contact the race director by July 15 if you would like to borrow a canoe for this race.

Race-day registration is $20 and starts at 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. with safety meeting at 8:45 a.m. Awards will be at 11 a.m.

Proceeds will go to Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park to support projects at the park.
