English Club holds in-person meeting

The English Club recently met — for the first time in 16 months — at McCoy’s Catering with President Jane Walker presiding. She read a poem, “Our Flag” to open the meeting. Tables were decorated in the patriotic theme.

Following the blessing by Sharon Breckel, we enjoyed our picnic-style lunch with hamburgers, hot dogs, three salads, baked beans and strawberry shortcake.

July birthdays were Shirley Katter, Anne Lynch, Joan Burge and Kitty Werner.

For our program, members answered roll call by telling highlights of the past year. Most members did a lot of reading, and a couple of members moved. There were also family health issues.

We learned how to Zoom and Facetime to keep in contact with friends and family.

Minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. It was voted upon that we keep our same officers until the September meeting: President Jane Walker, Vice President Nancy Williams, Secretary Susan Henry and Assistant Judy Sargent; Treasurer Sharon Breckel; and Sunshine – Joan Burge

New members are Carolyn Horan and Frances Sharp

The next meeting will be Aug. 6 at McCoy’s with Donna Barnhart, Carolyn Horan and Sue Miars serving as hostesses.

Present were Donna Barnhart, Sharon Breckel, Joan Burge, Beverly Drapalik, Susan Henry, Carolyn Horan, Nancy Jones, Shirley Katter, Sue Miars, Barbara Ostermeier, Joyce Peters, Judy Sargent, Frances Sharp, Jean Singleton, Helen Starkey, Connie Townsend, Jane Walker, Kitty Werner, Avonelle Williams, and Nancy Williams.
