With its championship win at South Central Ohio League Quiz Bowl, the academic team from Clinton-Massie High School proved worthy to play on a national stage.

The team will be in Chicago on Saturday, April 30 to represent Massie at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’ Small School National Championship Tournament — a competition testing the team’s knowledge of history, science, literature, fine arts, geography, social sciences, and current events

The team is captained by Nikki Settlemyre, who will be joined by Noah Adams, Alex Hudson, Cole Isaacs, Dawson Mullis, Wyatt Shelton and Evan Wright. The team is coached by Gil Farr.

The team from East Clinton High School also earned the opportunity to compete at the national competition. Members of the East Clinton team include juniors Devin Henson and Luke Meares, and seniors Olivia Kelly, Triston Moore, Stephen Rupp and Harley Smith. The team is coached by Jason Basford.

Academic Quiz Bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students. Its teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports and popular culture. Matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Participation in Quiz Bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.

The SSNCT is the only Quiz Bowl national championship pitting small schools against each other. Non-selective public schools with enrollments 500 or fewer in their top three grades are eligible to compete.

Tournament results will be updated throughout the two days of competition at www.naqt.com/stats/tournament-teams.jsp?tournament_id=6602 so anyone can follow along and see how the team does. You can also follow the #ssnct on Twitter.
