Ohio: Jobless numbers drop slightly

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 13,509 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 231 fewer than the previous week, and the state’s residents filed 130,618 continued traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 3,542 fewer than the previous week, the state reported Thursday.

Ohioans filed 5,355 initial Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claims last week, which was 6,087 fewer than the previous week. Initial claims include claims that have been flagged for potential fraud.

Of the 5,355 initial PUA claims filed last week, 1,943 have been flagged for potential fraud. All initial unemployment applications are thoroughly reviewed before they are either approved for payment or denied.

Ohioans filed 234,918 continued PUA claims last week, which was 31,709 more than the previous week. The total number of claims filed from Aug. 29 through Sept. 4 was 384,400.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in July was 5.4 %.; the national unemployment rate in July also was 5.4%.

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 60.5%, and the national labor force participation rate in July was 61.7%.
