Help honor a veteran: Clinton County Honor Flight planned

0

With May bring Military Appreciation Month, the Wilmington Rotary Clubs, in cooperation with the Clinton County American Legion and VFW Posts, are raising funds to support Clinton County veterans for an Honor Flight scheduled for fall 2016.

The Wilmington Rotary Clubs are working with Honor Flight Dayton, which has a long history of coordinating these events.

Honor Flights provide a means for veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials for their wars, among other sightseeing opportunities. There are also send-off and welcome-home receptions to acknowledge and honor the veterans’ service to our country.

These trips are cost-free for the veterans, so sponsorships and donations are a crucial component to Honor Flights.

It is Rotary’s intent to raise enough money to fill the plane (75 to 90 veterans) with Clinton County veterans. A committee has been working on this project for many months and is now prepared to begin the formal fundraising campaign.

The cost to send a veteran on an Honor Flight is $425. Businesses, service organizations, families and individuals are encouraged to participate in sponsoring the Clinton County event. Members of the Rotary committee are available to assist with ideas for fundraising. Any amount of donation is appreciated and tax-deductible.

In addition, if you are a veteran of any of the three wars mentioned above and are interested in participating in the Clinton County Honor Flight, or if you know a veteran who may be interested, applications are available online at honorflightdayton.org, at the Veterans Service Office in Wilmington, or by contacting Richard James at [email protected] or 937-218-6003.

If you have any questions regarding the Rotary fundraising efforts, you may contact Jack Powell at 937-655-7173 or send your questions to [email protected].

This is an opportunity to say “thank you” to those who have given so much for our country by helping to provide a once-in-a lifetime experience. Thank you for your support in honoring Clinton County veterans.
