‘Ghosts of Mississippi’ to be shown for free at Murphy Theatre

WILMINGTON — The public is invited to attend a free movie Wednesday, April 6 at the historic Murphy Theatre. “Ghosts of Mississippi” is being shown in conjunction with this year’s book choice for Clinton County Reads, “Race Against Time,” by Jerry Mitchell.

Concessions will be available for purchase.

“Ghosts of Mississippi” is a 1996 American biographical courtroom drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, and James Woods. “Race Against Time” author Jerry Mitchell is portrayed in the movie by actor Jerry Levine.

The plot is based on the true story of the 1994 trial of Byron De La Beckwith, the white supremacist accused of the 1963 assassination of civil rights activist Medgar Evers. The movie is rated PG-13.

Additional remaining Clinton County Reads events include:

• April 7 book discussion hosted at 7 p.m. by the Blanchester Public Library, held at Grace United Methodist Church.

• April 12 keynote event at the Murphy Theatre. Author Jerry Mitchell will speak about “Race Against Time” via a Zoom interactive webinar at 6:30 p.m. Doors to the Murphy will open at 5:30 p.m. for complimentary refreshments and a cash bar.

Copies of the 2022 Clinton County Reads book choice, “Race Against Time: A Reporter Reopens the Unsolved Murder Cases of the Civil Rights Era,” are available at the event’s sponsoring locations: the Blanchester Public Library, the Sabina Public Library and its New Vienna branch, the Wilmington Public Library and its Clinton-Massie branch, and locally owned booksnmore.org.
