Fund set up in wake of murder-suicide

Aside from waiting on the results of blood work sent by the coroner to a forensic laboratory, the case of the murder-suicide on Friday in Hillsboro that claimed the life of a one-year-old baby girl and her father is basically wrapped up, but a fundraising account has been set up to help the baby’s mother with expenses.

Along with sheriff and police officers, Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins and assistant prosecutor Molly Bolek also visited the scene on Trenton Street on Friday where officials say Timothy Harewood, 35, shot his daughter and later turned the gun on himself.

Collins said Monday that she and Bolek accompanied individuals from the Victims Assistance Office, who were on hand to comfort other relatives or friends, to “sit with them, call people for them, pray with them, whatever was needed,” said Collins.

A GoFundMe website account has been established to help the mother, Sarah Marie Kincer, and her three other children, according to a relative. The site states, “Unfortunately, there was no life insurance to help with medical and other expenses.” The site can be found at www.gofundme.com/sdx9h4mg.

Relatives from both sides of the family said Monday they were trying to cope with the grief and understand what led to the tragedy.

Internet users took to social media to share expressions of shock and sympathy. One woman posted that news accounts of the deaths of four children in similar circumstances, including Friday’s incident in Hillsboro, had come across her news feed, and “I will be hugging my daughter tighter and tighter everyday while she is in my arms… God bless these children who’s lives were ended too soon!” Another, addressed to the mother, said, “Praying that (you) find some sort of peace and comfort and hold your 3 girls tight during this tough time.”

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said Monday that an argument between Harewood and the mother of Harewood’s one-year-old daughter began Thursday night and carried into Friday.

Witnesses said that at one point Harewood went inside the home, got a gun, shot the baby girl, named Everleigh, then went outside to where the mother and family were sitting. Harewood reportedly went over to Kincer, struck her in the face, and attempted to shoot her. The gun misfired, and Harewood then turned the weapon on himself and fired a fatal shot.

Kincer was taken to Highland District Hospital, where she was treated and released, Barrera said Monday.

The sheriff’s office received the 911 call on the incident at 3:14 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies, along with officers of the Hillsboro Police Department, arrived on the scene. The Paint Creek Fire Department and Life Squad was called to the scene, along with the Highland County Coroner’s Office.

The baby’s grandmother, Susan Williamson Kincer, said a memorial service for the baby might be held sometime in Cincinnati. Arrangements for Timothy Harewood were not decided as of Monday afternoon, a family member said.
