East Clinton FFA members learn, are recognized at state convention

Many East Clinton FFA members attended the Ohio FFA state convention and ag tours in Columbus last Thursday and Friday.

The chapter attended two agricultural related tours, including the Ohio Farm Bureau and The Ohio State University orchard.

Members heard about the Ohio Farm Bureau and different types of jobs that people do there. This also included a tour of the office building, where we learned about the organization and responsibilities of several different jobs at the Farm Bureau building.

At Ohio State University’s orchard, FFA members learned about things like tree grafting, organic farming, orchards and apple trees, and a lot more interesting things about agriscience.

During day one of convention, state officer candidates were announced, and our delegate members Teddy Murphy and Gretchen Boggs voted in the officer elections. Mitchell Bean was also recognized for his state star Supervised Agricultural Experience (S.A.E).

During day two, members attended the last three sessions where many awards were presented to our chapter and its outstanding members.

Our Dairy Team earned first in the state, with members Lydia Kessler, Jenna Stanley, Kale Boeckmann, Teddy Murphy, and Maddi Frazer.

We were a national gold-rated chapter this year, and we received that award during the third session. Our officers who had gold-rated books were awarded on stage as well — our secretary, Lydia Kessler, and our reporter, Teddy Murphy.

Many of our proficiency finalists were awarded throughout the day, including Mitchell Bean, Kale Boeckmann, Anna Malone, Evan Stewart, Maddi Frazer, Dylan Arnold, Gretchen Boggs, and Carter Carey. These individuals all had outstanding achievements in their supervised agricultural experience projects throughout the year.

We had 10 students receiving their state degrees — Gretchen Boggs, Sydney Bosier, Dakota Collom, Gavin Denniston, Miranda Pierson, Conner Fisher, Erynn Cluley, Teddy Murphy, Timmi Mahanes, and Cooper Rack. We also saw the elections of the state officer candidates, and we would like to congratulate these newly elected officers on their dedication and leadership to the Ohio FFA Organization.

Our chapter and its members are glad that we got to experience many new things during these days of convention. We would like to thank the leaders who put this year’s convention together, as well as the Ohio Farm Bureau and The Ohio State University orchard for allowing us to attend their tours.
