The Blanchester-Great Oaks FFA chapter hosted its inaugural Chapter CDE Night.
Chapter officers and experienced members presented to members about several different CDE’s — Career Development Events — trying to increase the number of participants within each contest this year.
Kimberly Hurst and Shelbie Panetta presented about the General Livestock CDE using goats. In this CDE, FFA members evaluate breeding and market goats, sheep, swine, and beef cattle.
Olivia Hatter and Ava Wright demonstrated the Equine Management CDE — using a miniature pony — in which FFA members evaluate horses on their structure and markings.
Aubrie Panetta presented the Soil Evaluation CDE, in which FFA members judge the quality of the soil, as well as the soil type and texture all while considering the desired use, rural or urban.
Gracie Kaehler and Ava Wright presented the Agricultural Sales CDE, in which a team of FFA members tries to sell the judges an agricultural product using salesman technique.
Janelle Whitaker and Annalee-Miller Steffen presented the Public Speaking CDE — which tests the member’s memory and public speaking abilities, and the Greenhand Quiz CDE — an online exam that first-year members take about FFA facts and history.
Greta Quigley gave a presentation about the Floriculture CDE, in which participants identify different types of flowers and make a bouquet with them.
Abbi Scott gave a presentation about the Parliamentary Procedure CDE, in which a team of members practices conducting a business meeting while practicing the six steps of handling a motion.
“CDE Night was a blast,” said Sentinel Abbi Scott. “I think the members that came enjoyed themselves and learned a lot.”
Blanchester-Great Oaks FFA is looking forward to competing in these Career Development Events which will provide members an opportunity to enhance the skills which they are passionate about.
