MORAINE, Ohio – The Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving four vehicles and multiple pedestrians that occurred at approximately 11:03 a.m. Monday on Interstate 75 southbound near the exit for State Route 741.

The preliminary investigation showed a box truck was southbound on I-75 when it struck a stopped Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office transport van, according to a news release from the OSHP Dayton Post.

The impact pushed the transport van into multiple pedestrians who were picking up litter as part of the Montgomery County Solid Waste Litter Program.

The box truck then went left across the lanes of southbound I-75 and struck the center concrete median barrier, where it was struck by two additional southbound vehicles.

A litter program worker suffered fatal injuries at the scene, the OSHP reported.

Three other litter program workers and a deputy were injured and transported to local hospitals.

A driver of one of the southbound vehicles suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The box truck driver and the driver of the other southbound vehicle claimed possible minor injuries.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Moraine Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton Police Department, Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Moraine Fire Department, Sandy’s Towing, Parker’s Towing and Recovery, Hollis Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The road was closed for approximately five hours.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time
