Smoke testing scheduled for Northwest Wilmington, to begin Monday

0

WILMINGTON – The City of Wilmington and PRIME AE Group, Inc. have retained Burgess & Niple, Inc. to perform smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system in northwest Wilmington beginning Monday, October 17. These tests will help determine the need for future improvements.

It will be necessary for Burgess & Niple personnel to access the city’s sanitary sewer system within the target area during the next few weeks. In some areas, workers may need to enter yards to access manholes and sewer lines located within the city easement.

Field investigations for this phase of the study consist of smoke testing. Crews may be blowing air and non-hazardous smoke into the sanitary sewer system in northwest Wilmington neighborhoods. This testing method will identify potential leaks into the sanitary sewer system.

Based on the findings of the sewer smoke testing phase, future water and dye testing may also be performed to identify the potential pathways and severity of leaks discovered during smoke testing.
