BLANCHESTER —An 18-year-old Blanchester woman was arrested after police say a 13-year-old runaway boy was located in her apartment.

According to Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt, on the morning of Sept. 28 a Blanchester resident reported that her 13-year-old grandson had run away from home during the night. This was the fourth time the boy had run away since early August, police said; officers were able to locate the boy in each of the three prior incidents.

Later in the day on Sept. 28, the complainant reported finding a note in her mailbox stating that her grandson had been killed, Reinbolt said.

As part of efforts to locate the boy, officers checked the homes of his known associates, Reinbolt said. One of the homes they went to was an apartment at 123 N. Broadway Street, the residence of Brittany Henslee, 18. Officers spoke to Henslee and obtained her consent to check her apartment for the missing boy, and they found him hiding in a closet, Reinbolt said.

“On Tuesday, Sept. 27, a Blanchester police officer had spoken with Ms. Henslee after learning she was socializing with the 13-year-old boy,” Reinbolt said. “The officer warned her that any actions taken by her to assist the boy to run away could result in her arrest. This was advice she apparently did not take to heart.”

Henslee was arrested and charged with contributing to the unruliness of a child, Reinbolt said. The boy was taken into custody by police and turned over to Clinton County Children Services for placement in shelter care.
