Kiwanis honors Backyard Bash players

The football awards and trophy for the Third Annual Backyard Bash between the Clinton-Massie Falcons and Wilmington Hurricane, which took place Friday night, are sponsored by the Wilmington Kiwanis Club. Receiving the Backyard Bash Trophy from Wilmington Kiwanis Club members Terri Thobaben and Kim Hiatt are victorious Clinton-Massie football captains #52 Isaac Green, #39 Brad Hunt, #10 Devon O’Byron and #5 Cole O’Byron.

The Walter G. Sellers Memorial Leadership Award is given to a senior football player who is outstanding on the field as well as in the classroom and in his community, standard that Mr. Sellers lived by. He was a Greene County community leader and the first African-American elected International President of Kiwanis. Sellers, who died in 2008, was also a College Football All-American at Central State University. Making the presentation is Wilmington High School Key Club member Bridgette Thompson to Clinton-Massie’s #10 Devon O’Byron and Wilmington’s #4 Chad Davis.

Making the presentation for the Scout Player of the Week is Clinton-Massie High School Key Club President Drew Evans to Clinton Massie’s #12 Corey Stulz and Wilmington’s # 13 Craig Schiff.

Making the presentation for Special Teams Player of the Game is Clinton-Massie High School Key Club Member Cassie Marineto to Clinton-Massie’s #13 Christopher Demier and Wilmington’s #91 Brady Henry.

Making the presentation for Defensive Player of the Game is Clinton-Massie High School Key Club member Kendall Cloud to Clinton-Massie’s #11 Cade James and Wilmington’s #7 Kyler Reed.

Making the presentation for Offensive Player of the Game are Wilmington High School Key Club members Lindsey Murphy and Brooke Blakeman to Clinton-Massie’s #30 Christian Poynter and Wilmington’s #3 Adam Phelps.
