WPD Week in Review: 36 arrested

0

WILMINGTON — The total calls for service ended up for the week at 309, and theft and traffic crash calls led for the week.

Many of these were thefts from business — one notable theft includes a piece of farm equipment and a stolen car. This week John Coile, whom we had a previous press release on for multiple thefts from business, received 17 years in prison for his role in an organized theft ring. Coile broke into several businesses in the city and a several-month investigation led to several cases being closed

This past week we arrested Kayla Conger, 24, Rachel Long, 35, Lisa Burris, 51, Nathan Buckler, 18, and Chris Blank, 23, all of them from the Wilmington area for alleged theft offenses. Chris Sanfrey, 25, of Wilmington was charged with alleged criminal trespassing. James Liddil, 44, of Wilmington was charged with disorderly conduct. Taylor Adams, 33, of Wilmington was arrested for alleged domestic violence and obstruction. Melissa Helton, 37, of Martinsville was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. Scott Harris, 61, of Wilmington was arrested for alleged public indecency.

We had one arrest where the person allegedly resisted arrest — in this case, Bridget Topping, 34, of Wilmington was taken into custody for warrants and resisting arrest.

In all, we arrested 36 people for the week.

Our communications staff stayed busy this week as they fielded hundreds of phone calls regarding Halloween and downtown events. They dispatched fire and EMS 103 times this week in addition to handling the police calls.

Duane Weyand is Wilmington’s Chief of Police.
