Fire destroys unoccupied house

An unoccupied house was destroyed by fire Sunday on North Curry Road. The blaze was called in as a fully involved house fire in the woods, said Wilmington Fire Chief Andy Mason. The fire had begun to spread through the woods when the fire department arrived, but WFD was able to contain it pretty quickly, Mason said. The chief described the structure as a wood, A-frame house. The Xenia owner, Martha Davis, advised WFD that no one had lived at the house for 15 to 20 years. The cause remained undetermined as of Monday morning. Mason said WFD plans to follow up with some potential witnesses. There were no injuries reported among firefighters. The owner said the house contained some memorabilia but they were destroyed when WFD arrived. Additional resources were provided via mutual aid from the Chester Township Fire and EMS, Clinton Warren Fire District and EMS, and the Port William Fire Department and EMS.
