Milburn steps down from city council

WILMINGTON — Wilmington City Council member Randi Milburn has resigned her post on council. She submitted her resignation Tuesday afternoon to Mayor John Stanforth as well as Clinton County Republican Chairman Tim Inwood.

Milburn, who had been on city council since 2012, said her decision to leave council wasn’t easy. She told the News Journal she resigned because of family matters and not being able to dedicate enough time to her council duties.

“There’s no ill will towards any council members or anyone,” she said. “I appreciate all of them and have enjoyed working with them.”

Milburn said her proudest moments on council ranged from seeing the temporary tax levy pass Tuesday to getting an ordinance passed that allowed a family to have their pot belly pig as a pet.

Wilmington Mayor John Stanforth expressed his sadness at seeing Milburn’s resignation and said he’ll miss her on council.

“It breaks my heart,” said Stanforth, “she did an outstanding job. I was so impressed with that young lady.”

Council President Randy Riley was also saddened to see Milburn leave after doing a “tremendous job” on council.

“She’s done a wonderful job for the city,” said Riley. “She did a great job on council and I’m certainly going to miss her.

Fellow council member Kelsey Swindler said she enjoyed working alongside Milburn.

“I’m grateful for her hard work on behalf of Wilmington and for her passion for this community,” said Swindler.

“Randi Milburn loves this town and recognized that she could not continue to devote what was needed,” added Inwood. “I thank her for her service to Wilmington and applaud her responsible way of handling this matter. I respect this young lady a great deal and hope she remains active in civic life.”

Inwood said the GOP Central Committee will be scheduling a special meeting to address filling the council vacancy, which must be filled within 45 days, he said.

“By the laws of the State of Ohio we have 45 days to fill this vacancy,” Inwood said. “That means we have until December 23, but I intend to act well before this date.”

He said this is an at-large seat and this decision will be made by all of the Clinton County GOP Central Committee members who live in and represent the City of Wilmington.

“I am asking all interested parties to reach out and let me know of their intention to run for this open seat,” he said.

You may mail your resume, including all contact information, to the Republican Party Chairman: Tim Inwood, 1290 N. Nelson Road, Wilmington OH 45177.
