Ashley Lynne Lakins of Wilmington captured the world championship title in junior western pleasure at the 2016 Lucas Oil American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show on Nov. 11 in Oklahoma City.

Lakins showed the American Quarter RR Magical Moonlight, owned by Jamie Watson of Goshen. The 2012 brown gelding, sired by Only In The Moonlight and out of The Mouse Is Talkin by Sweet Talkin Chip, was bred by Gumz Rodrock Partnership of Morganfield, Kentucky.

In the junior western pleasure class, 23 entries competed for world champion honors and a purse of $10,259.61. World champions received a prize package that included a custom-designed gold trophy, courtesy of the Lucas Oil World; Montana Silversmiths buckle; specially designed logoed jacket and world champion patch, courtesy of Cripple Creek Outerwear; neck wreath; and 100 pounds of Nutrena feed.

The Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines.
