Clinton County eateries inspected

WILMINGTON — The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

The following restaurants or food service establishments were inspected recently:

• Spanky’s/Blanchester Theatre, 115 E. Main St., Blanchester, Nov. 4. Clean-up procedure for vomit/diarrhea accidents unavailable. Verification demonstrating employees knowledgeable with illness reporting unavailable. This is new requirement as of 3/1/16. Provided info sheets. Chicken, 122°F (warmer, cabinet). Hot TCS foods must be maintained 135°F or higher to prevent bacteria growth. PIC discarded. PIC corrected. Raw chicken residues observed in prep sink. Sticker residue observed on clean container. Observed dust on fans in kitchen. Equipment must be maintained clean. Shield at prep sink missing. Shield must be in place to protect RTE foods from splatter from raw chicken prep in prep sink. Facility sinks must be in good repair. Comments: Theatre was not open at time of visit. No manager at time of visit (recently left position). FSO working to fill general manager position. Contact Health Dept. for proper review of theatre space. Theatre open limited hours. Lighting at popcorn machine space? Black lights observed in track lighting? Adequate lighting must be available to see food and equipment. Manager, general manager or license holder contact Health Dept. for theatre space. Remember Level 2 Food Protection Certification will be required 3/1/17.

• McDonald’s, 201 W. Main St., Blanchester, Nov. 7. Follow-up. Critical: The sanitizer solution in the 3-compartment sink was tested and there was no reading of sanitizer. The PIC filled sink with clean fresh water and sanitizer. Appears sanitizer is not dispensing. All 3-compartment sinks must wash-rinse-sanitize with appropriate levels of sanitizer available in the water to properly sanitize dishes (2nd notice).

There is an accumulation of ice on the condenser lines in the walk-in freezer. All equipment must be maintained in good working order. PIC stated they are waiting on part (2nd notice). There is trash on the floor by pop syrup boxes. There is splatter on the walls and floors throughout the facility. The general cleanliness of floors and walls needs to be addressed due to food, trash and splatter (spilled food, bacon, mustard, chicken nuggets, french fries, packages of sauce, plastic lids/containers) (2nd notice). All parts of the facility must be maintained clean and in good working order. All parts of the facility shall be maintained free from dirt, debris, food and splatter/spillage.

• New China Dragon, 103 E. Main St., Blanchester, Nov. 8. Follow-up. There is no procedure posted for cleaning up vomiting/diarrhea. There is no sign-off sheet for employees. All FSO’s must have clean-up procedure posted for cleaning up vomiting/diarrhea. All FSO’s must have sign-off sheet for employees to ensure they know when to report foodborne illness. Left handouts (second notice). The chest freezer that the seafood is stored in — the lid is pulling down. All equipment must be maintained in good working order (second notice). PIC stated that she was going to get a new one. There were broken floor tiles in front of 3-compartment sink. All floors, walls and ceilings must be maintained in good repair. All floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and easily cleanable (second notice).

• Laurels of Blanchester, 839 E. Cherry St., Blanchester, Nov. 8. Everything looks good. No concerns at this time. Thank you!

• Kentucky Fried Chicken, 127 E. Main St., Wilmington, Nov. 9. There was an accumulation of ice around the door of the walk-in freezer which would not allow it to close properly. The seal around the door of the walk-in cooler is broken. All equipment in the food service must be maintained in good working order. The toilet in the men’s restroom was broken/not working. The toilet is covered with clear plastic bag. PIC said maintenance crew has worked on toilet several times. Facility is also working with Brown Plumbing to get toilet repaired. All plumbing must be maintained in good working order. The floors in the dry storage area are dirty. There is food, food debris and paper on floors throughout facility. There is tile missing on the wall beside the hood. All floors, walls and ceilings in the facility must be kept clean and free from food, dirt and debris. All floors, walls and ceilings in the facility must be maintained smooth and easily cleanable.

• MacD’s Pub, 1400 W. Locust St., Wilmington. Follow-up. Critical: The mayo on the prep cooler was at 44°F and the tub of sharp cheddar cheese witting on prep cooler cutting board was 60.5°F. (Label says to refrigerate after opening.) All TCS foods must be kept cold at 41°F or below to prevent bacterial growth.

(3.4) Labeling corrected. Thank you. (4.1) Thermometers corrected. Thank you. (4.2) Test strips corrected. Thank you. (4.4) When using test strips there was no sanitizer in the water at the dishwasher. All mechanical dishwashers must meet minimum levels of sanitizer. PIC stated bucket of sanitizer solution used for dishwashing had been changed earlier in the day. Appears that the solution is not making it into the machine. Tube carrying sanitizer into dishwasher appears to be empty. (4.5) Dirty equipment — corrected. Thank you! (6.1) Gap observed over top of stove by back door. Exterior of the building must be sealed to prevent entry of pests. (6.4) There were floor tiles missing in front of deep fryer. There are ceiling tiles with what appears to be water damage in the dry storage area. There is also wood covering vent opening (?) in dry storage area. Facility shall be maintained in good repair. All floors, walls and ceilings shall be smooth and easily cleanable.
