BLANCHESTER —Village of Blanchester Councilman Joseph Lyle “J.L.” Runk died Saturday at age 75.

Blanchester Mayor John Carman said that Runk’s passing was tragic. He added that Runk was very public-oriented and cared a lot about his community.

“He was sensitive and was always willing to step in and help those in need,” said Carman.

Runk was Pastor at Monterey Christian Church and had been associate pastor at Blanchester Church of Christ and pastor at Moscow Church of Christ.

Paul Casteel, the current pastor at Blanchester Church of Christ, said Runk helped him and his family get to know local residents when they moved to Blanchester.

“He was a wonderful person,” said Casteel.

Runk also worked at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home as a part-time greeter and served as pastor for some of the services. Jarrod Norman, the manager of the Blanchester branch of Tufts Schildmeyer, expressed his sorrow.

“He was a great, great man,” said Norman. “He’ll be missed greatly.”

According to Carman, discussions will be held in regards to filling Runk’s seat on village council. Either council makes a motion to appoint someone, or the mayor can appoint someone.
