Annual ‘Pulpit Exchange’ among Wilmington-area churches set for March 26

CLINTON COUNTY — An ecumenical tradition continues in the community on Sunday, March 26 when five local pastors exchange pulpits and congregations for the day.

The following schedule is planned for this year’s Pulpit Exchange: Rev. Dean Feldmeyer at the Chester Friends Meeting at 9:45 a.m.; Pastor Julie Rudd at the Springfield Friends Meeting at 10:45 a.m.; Pastor Nancy McCormick at the Wilmington Friends Meeting at 10 a.m.; Pastor Mike McCormick at the First Christian Church (FCC) in Wilmington at 10:30 a.m.; and Rev. Dr. Tom Stephenson at the Wilmington Methodist Church at 10 a.m.

The Wilmington Area Ministerial Association (WAMA) Pulpit Exchange will treat each participating church and their pastors to different settings and unique styles of preaching during the exchange. While the worship experience of every church is a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, each tradition develops its own wonderful and personal ways of expressing that gospel through its practice of worship, stated a news release.

Likewise, preachers have their own unique approaches to the development and delivery of the sermon. Through the lenses of their training, experience, pastoral journey, and how the Spirit of God is encountering them, a particular style of scriptural interpretation and preaching emerges, one to which congregations become accustomed, the release added.

When a different preacher enters the pulpit, the congregation experiences the sermon in all its diversity and wonder, while each pastor encounters another environment and people in worship that will challenge and broaden her or his experience of the church.

Residents are warmly encouraged to share in these messages through congregations committed to love and serve the Lord in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, the news release concluded.
