MIDLAND — The Department of the Air Force notified Brooke Suzanne Honaker of the Midland area in Clinton County that she has been appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado.

The appointment is awarded to about 1,200 of 9,700 applicants, stated the letter from the Air Force.

Honaker is believed to be the first female from Blanchester High School to receive such an appointment.

Entering the USAF Academy is an opportunity to take part in an officer training program.
