WILMINGTON — Wilmington City Schools’ Athletic Boosters will host its first run for the roses Derby Gala at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Roberts Centre. Tickets are $50 with all proceeds benefiting the athletics programs of WCS.

The event will feature previously recorded televised races, and to add a bit of friendly fun and local competition, all horses have been named by local sponsors, adding to the excitement of the Derby festivities.

Derby goers will enjoy a delicious dinner buffet catered by the Roberts Centre, receive two complimentary raffle tickets, have the opportunity to participate in live and silent auctions, and take a chance on winning a variety of raffle items.

According to Claudia Martini-Garlow, secretary for the booster organization, the boosters “hope to raise enough funds to set the budget for the upcoming year so that next year there are enough funds to work with each coach in addressing every team’s needs.”

Sponsorship for this year’s Gala event is provided by Bush Auto Place, Croghan Auto Care, Generations Pizza, Gold Star Chili, Groves Tires, Quali-Tee, Taylor’s South Shore Marina, R&L Carriers, Vital Fitness, and Wilmington Savings Bank.

While it’s not required, Derby goers are welcomed to dress the part by wearing their best derby hats and suits which will only add to the excitement of the run for the roses.

To purchase tickets, you may contact the Wilmington High School athletic office by calling 937-382-7716 ext. 7217, by emailing [email protected], or via Facebook by searching Wilmington Athletic Boosters. Ticket sales will conclude on Tuesday, April 18.
