Wilmington man dies in Greene County crash

GREENE COUNTY — A Wilmington man died in a multiple-vehicle crash at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 68 South at Spring Valley-Paintersville Road in Caesars Creek Township.

Robert Beedle III, 65, of Wilmington was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and was struck head-on by a 2016 Toyota Corolla that crossed the center line, according to the Xenia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Toyota was driven by Salina Leist, 31, of Maineville.

Robert Beedle III was killed in the accident.

Passengers in the Tahoe included Robert Beedle Jr., 89, of Blanchester, who was in the right front of the passenger seat, while Penny Beedle, 53, of Wilmington was the rear middle passenger.

According to the OSHP, Leist was traveling northbound on US 68 when she traveled left of center and struck Mr. Beedle III head-on.

Immediately afterward, Amanda Adkins, 26, of Wilmington, driving a 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck, struck the Tahoe from behind, causing the Tahoe to travel off the west edge of the road and overturn, according to the OSHP

Leist was trapped in her car, and had to be freed mechanically from the vehicle. She was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Robert Beedle Jr. was transported by CareFlight for life-threatening injuries to Miami Valley Hospital. He remained in critical condition Thursday afternoon at Miami Valley Hospital.

Mrs. Beedle was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for minor injuries. .

Alcohol and drug use are not a factor in the collision. Mr. Beedle III and Mrs. Beedle were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the OSHP.

US 68 was closed for approximately three hours. The crash remains under investigation.
