Lions team with fourth graders

The Wilmington Lions Club distributed nearly 700 pine seedlings the week of April 24 among all the fourth-grade students in Clinton County.

Trees were given out at Blanchester Intermediate, Clinton-Massie, East Clinton, New Vienna, Sabina, and the the Wilmington elementaries — Denver Place, East End and Holmes.

The Fourth Grade Foresters Project was the source of the saplings. Sponsors including the local Lions Club have collaborated to distribute over 600,000 trees in 7,100 schools this spring as part of Arbor Day in the United States.

Since 2006 when Fourth Grade Foresters Project was kicked off millions of children have planted millions of seedlings which make up a unique forest — a forest planted by generations of our country’s children.

Wilmington Lion Gene Snyder and fourth-grade science teacher Ralph Sexton hand out saplings to 135 Blanchester fourth graders. Mr. Sexton’s homework assignment the night before: Get with your parents and decide where you will plant your tree.
