WHS Class of ‘67 set to celebrate

WILMINGTON — The 50-year celebration of the Wilmington High School Class of 1967 will be July 21-23.

On Friday night, July 21, tables are reserved at the Mural in the alley beside the General Denver. The event is free and open to the public. Food and drink will be available for purchase as you enjoy live music, and meet and greet classmates and their families.

As an added bonus, organizers of the event are inviting all alumni of WHS, so you should see many former friends from other class years.

On Saturday, anyone who wants to enjoy golf at Snow Hill Country Club should contact Fred Ertel, [email protected]. This outing is open to anyone who wants to play, including non-members of the class.

For those who want an alternative to golf, they plan to meet at the WHS parking lot for a tour of some of the old hangouts. Included so far are the high school and middle school, Murphy Theatre, and the Courthouse. They plan to meet around 9:30 a.m. Everyone can enjoy lunch at one of the favorite eating places.

On Sunday at noon, we have a shelter reserved at JW Denver Williams Park. Bring your families, food, drinks, and chairs and meet at the park at noon. Bring bats and balls, corn hole, or anything you might want to play. It will be a nice relaxed atmosphere to see old friends and families. Contact Joe Allen if questions at [email protected].

The class is looking for these classmates: Sandra Williams, Denny Powell, Nora Cox, Gary Scott, Susan Bashore, Scott Smith, Anthony Roberson, Charles “Mickey” Lewis, Karen Haynie, Pamela Hughes, Linda Tunner, Clint Norman, Patricia Phillips, Don Erskine, Gary Wilson, Ronald Wilkin, Greg Hagen, Mike Mobley, Gary Robb.

Call Peelle Law Offices at 937-382-1497 if you know whereabouts of these classmates or if you did not receive an invitation.

Organizers are reserving a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn. When you call, ask for the WHS Class of 1967 price. You may stay at the General Denver, or if you don’t believe in ghosts, you may book a room at Snow Hill Country Club. Or bring your RV and stay at the Cowan Lake Campground.

There is a GoFundMe account as a fundraiser. If you are interested in attending the reunion, but find some financial hurdles, the group hopes to generate some funds from this project which might be able to assist you. All inquiries for funds will be held in confidence and handled on a case to case basis. If you chose to donate, please include your donation with your application or go online.

If you are sending a check, make payable to WHS Class of 1967 and note GO FUND ME. If you need further information, contact [email protected].
