Corn Fest quilt winners announced

There was much anticipation when the 2015 Raffle Quilt winners were drawn last Sunday afternoon for the Clinton County Quilt Association raffle quilts. A number of the potential winners were in the audience as one by one the ticket stubs were emptied into a large basket, stirred well and finally the winning tickets were withdrawn by Aliah, a young new quilter and the great-granddaughter of one of the group’s longtime members.

Nancy Davis was the winner of the Peace Cottage Quilt. The Ohio Star Quilt was won by Virginia Stan. And the much-sought-after Ohio State Quilt was won by Trisha McIntire

In addition, the Clinton County Quilt Association gave 13 handmade quilts to Wilmington American Legion Post 49. In a moving presentation last Saturday attended by Legion and Auxiliary Officers, those in attendance applauded the patriotic display of quilts. The quilts will be distributed by the Legion to veterans around Clinton County, such as those who are shut-ins due to health problems.

Quilt guild members who made and donated their quilts are Judy Burton, Carlynn Gulick Breakfield, Denise Davis, Georgann Quallen, Carol Earhart, Bette Ursell, Rita Cioppettini, Margaret Oborne, Joanne Mumsie Weston, Elaine Seipelt Shoemaker, and Teresa Harvel.

During the quilt show, several members provided ongoing demonstrations of various techniques. They invited visitors to the show to “Please Interrupt” their demos so that they could explain the processes they were doing.

Visitors were intrigued by the various demonstrations such as quilt block assembly, needle felting, and the preparation of quilts which will be donated to those in need within Clinton County, such as residents of the Clinton County Homeless Shelter, those who have suffered from fires, Hospice residents and many others.

The Clinton County Quilt Association thanks all those who purchased raffle tickets or advertising in the Program Booklet this year as their dollars helps to support these causes. Plans are already underway for the 2016 Clinton County Corn Festival Quilt Show.
