Rotary learns about cyber crimes

Rebeka Hamilton, Compliance Officer of Wilmington Savings Bank, recently spoke to the Wilmington Rotary Club which meets at noon on Mondays. She handles risk management, fraud and identify theft issues for the bank.

Hamilton talked about the sophistication of individuals attempting to gain access to get our business and personal information. She stated that scanners at the point of pale are being used to steal credit card information; also emails that, when opened, install software on your computer to capture personal and financial information.

Hamilton urged Rotarians to educate employees about these risks and to encourage multiple, robust passwords that are not kept on the computer. She also provided tips on how to create strong passwords.

Above all, if you are the victim of a cyber crime, notify the authorities and talk about it to others.
