BPD: Suspect’s insults followed by assault

BLANCHESTER —A Blanchester man was arrested and charged with assault after what police say was his latest instance of hurling insults followed by violent behavior.

At around 3 a.m. on Sunday, June 11 Blanchester police officers were called to the area of Broadway and Cherry streets for a report of an assault.

Officers arrived and spoke with Jason Bolish, 37, who was intoxicated, according to Police Chief Scott Reinbolt. He said Bolish claimed that after leaving Ron’s Place, a downtown bar, he went to the United Dairy Farmers store on West Main Street. While in the store Bolish claimed he was insulted by another customer, and that the customer and a companion waited for him outside where they assaulted him, Reinbolt said.

An investigation was opened and was assigned to Sgt. Gary Mowen, who viewed videotaped evidence and spoke to witnesses and was able to identify and locate the two men who Bolish claimed assaulted him, one of whom is hearing impaired.

“Based upon the evidence gathered, it appears that two men were inside UDF when they were approached by Bolish, who made sport of the hearing impaired man’s disability,” said reinbolt. “To his credit, the man ignored Bolish. After completing their purchase, the two men began walking home, and Bolish followed them calling the hearing impaired man ugly names as they walked along. The man continued to ignore Bolish’s insults, but when they got to Dewey Park, he turned to confront Bolish, who punched him in the face. The man defended himself, his friend tried to break up the fight, and was assaulted by Bolish in the process.

Bolish was the victim of an assault in December. “An investigation was conducted into that case and resulted in the assailant being charged with felonious assault,” Reinbolt said. “Evidence in that case established the assault was the culmination of a confrontation started by Bolish hurling insults at the suspect. When interviewed in that case, Bolish told officers he should not have insulted the man in the first place.”

Reinbolt added that Bolish has two prior arrests for domestic violence.

Sgt. Mowen’s investigation having been completed, last night he arrested Jason Bolish and charged him with two counts of assault alleging he assaulted the two men. He is currently in the Clinton County jail and will answer the charges in the Clinton County Municipal Court this morning.
