Little Free Library times two

Thanks to the coordinating efforts of Cowan Lake State Park Naturalist Sarah Blair, two new Little Free Libraries were recently placed in the park.

The identical libraries were handcrafted by Scott Sneed, a member of Friends Caring for Cowan Lake, a wonderful new volunteer group with which Sarah partners regularly to support and improve the park.

Park management provided the materials for the project. Both libraries are located within Cowan Lake Campground, one right next to the Naturalist Cabin and one behind the commissary with a beautiful view of the lake.

Little Free Libraries began in 2009 when Wisconsin resident Todd Bol built a Library in memory of his mother, a former teacher. His idea soon became a non-profit organization, which now includes over 50,000 libraries located all over the world.

The mission behind Little Free Libraries is “Take a Book, Return a Book” anytime, promoting literacy for both young & old while sparking creativity within communities. Turn learn more, please visit LittleFreeLibrary.org.

Wilmington boasts three other Little Free Libraries placed by Kevi Copsey — in the Pocket Park beside Jen’s Deli in downtown Wilmington, in Timberglen Subdivision near the Presbyterian Church, and in J.W. Denver Williams Jr. Memorial Park along the walking/bike trail near the wooden playground.

There are more Little Free Libraries sprinkled within our community as well, placed by individuals with a passion for reading and supporting our community.
