Wilmington paves the way: Around 70 streets to be fixed soon

WILMINGTON — The streets won’t be paved with gold, but at least they’ll look better and be smoother.

Starting in mid-August, the City of Wilmington will be repairing and repaving around 70 streets.

At its July 20 meeting, council approved an ordinance appropriating $880,000 from the General Fund for the project expenses. The amount was estimated by engineers.

“This appears to be the most money appropriated to improve our streets,” said Safety/Service Director Brian Shidaker.

The expenses will cover these streets:

• Resurfacing: Dana Avenue, Farquhar Avenue, Kenyon Drive, Richardson Place, and Ruby Avenue.

• Microsurfacing: Fulton Avenue, Westwynd Circle, and Woodside Drive will be receiving .

• Safety improvements: North South Street, Xenia Avenue, Lorish Avenue, Wayne Road, and Nelson Avenue. North South Street will also be getting full depth repairs.

• Culvert improvements: Nelson Avenue.

“That’s the only one that won’t be happening as soon as the others,” Shidaker said. “Since part of it involves going over a creek we need to get a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers. We’ve already started the process to get one.”

Fifty-seven streets will be getting crack sealing repairs: Booth Avenue, Cheyenne Court, Clinton Street, Country Oaks Lane, Cross Creek Circle, Downard Circle, East Ruby Avenue, Forest Lake Drive, Fulton Street, Gilbraltar Drive, Grove Street, Hale Street, Hillcrest Avenue and Drive, Howard Street, Imperial Court, Jefferson Drive, John Chambers Drive, Josephine Street, Kay Drive, Ken Hawk Place, Lakewood Drive, Lanyard Lane, Lookout Court, Mayfair Drive, McDermott Avenue, Meadow Lane, New Street, North Mulberry Street, North Nelson Street, North South Street, North Spring Street, North Wood Street, Nunn Avenue, Oakridge Drive, Peggy Lane, Preston Drive, Quiet Creek Court, Regal Drive, Seminole Way, Sherman Street, Silverado Drive, South Wood Street, Spinnaker Place, Springbird Court, Stopp Street, Summit Street, Thorne Avenue, Valley Street, Washington Avenue, West Birdsall Street, West Ruby Avenue, West Vine Street, Westwynd Circle, Woodside Drive, Xenia Avenue and Yukon Court.
