Bob Thomas is the new President of the Wilmington Lions Club.

Bob Thomas is the new President of the Wilmington Lions Club for 2015-2016.

Last year’s president, Bill Pierson, passed the gavel to Thomas and wished him luck and a happy journey. Actually both of these men had been president a few years ago, but Pierson said there have been so many changes since his reign in 1995-1996 that it seemed like everything was a new experience.

Lions District Governor Don Robinette inducted Thomas and his officers at the Lions Club meeting Monday, June 15 at the Senior Services Center on North Nelson Avenue. Robinette described the duties of each new officer and then gave out special awards to several members. Lions receiving awards were Ruth Stuckey, Len Perkins, Joe Curtain and newest member Kathy Fenton.

Outgoing President Pierson presented the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award to three deserving Lion members. Mary Bumgarner and family accepted the award for her deceased husband Ken Bumgarner.

Lion members Nial Henry and Janet Renshaw were presented the other two awards. Melvin Jones Fellow awards takes its name from the founder of Lions Clubs International and acknowledges an individual’s dedication to humanitarian services. It is the foundation’s highest honor.
