SABINA — The grand marshal honorees for the annual Sabina Labor Day Parade will be the children and grandchildren of deceased Sabina Lions Club members. The choice is in connection with the 100th anniversary of Lions International.
The descendants will ride on a float in the parade, said Sabina Lions Club member Susan Littleton Kemper.
Parade participants and units will assemble in the field by the elementary school from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4. The parade starts its procession at 11 a.m. and will end up in the Richland Township Park.
Parade units include floats, motor vehicles including tractors, bicycles and the East Clinton Marching Band. All drivers of motorized vehicles in the parade — including golf carts — have to be licensed drivers, Kemper said.
When the parade arrives at the park, the Sabina Lions Club will start serving chicken and pork chops. The meal is a Sabina Lions Club fundraiser.
The meal consists of choice of meat, baked beans, apple sauce, a roll, and tea or lemonade. Cost is $6 for adults, and $3 for children younger than 8.
In addition, pee wee football and pee wee cheerleaders will hold a hot dogs fundraiser, and there may also be a desserts fundraiser.
A dunking machine and pie-in-the-face fun are planned at the park.
The Lions Club will have an auction with a lot of nice donations from businesses in Sabina and the surrounding community, Kemper said.
The hope is that new American flags will be waving on utility poles in town in time for the parade, Sabina Mayor Dean Hawk said.
