WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash which occurred at about 12:16 a.m. Friday on McCoy Road southeast of State Route 73 in Union Township, Clinton County.

According to the OSHP, a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck was driving northwest and operated by Syth M. Rinehart, 19, of Washington Court House. The truck entered a counter-clockwise spin, drove off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree.

Rinehart was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that Rinehart was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, the OSHP stated, and the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Wilmington Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.

The Patrol reminds motorists to do their part in keeping roadway safe by always buckling up, never to drive distracted, never driving impaired, slowing down, driving defensively, taking their time and by being knowledgeable of all roadway laws.
