Free Law Clinic to hold hours Oct. 20

WILMINGTON — The Clinton/Highland County Family Law Clinic will hold its fourth clinic hours on Friday, Oct. 20.

Those who qualify will receive a free legal consultation with a volunteer attorney on a first-come, first-served basis. The clinic will be held at the Clinton County Law Library on the third floor of the courthouse.

So far this year, 26 indigent clients have received assistance through the clinic, according to Katie Wright, assistant prosecutor for the Child Support Enforcement Agency.

Clinic hours have been held in March, June and August, and clients were assisted on issues such as parenting time, child support and other family law related matters.

“This initiative is all about solving problems for people who are struggling in our community, and it’s exciting to see that happening,” Wright said. “I can’t thank our volunteer attorneys enough. They have shown up with enthusiasm and demonstrated a sincere willingness to help those in need.”

Local attorneys Scott Evans and Brett Rudduck will be on hand for the upcoming clinic hours. Wright also credited Anne Lucas, the managing attorney of the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, and volunteer clinic administrator Jayme Mabry, who have been instrumental in administering the clinic.

The clinic operates in partnership with the Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, the Clinton County Fatherhood Initiative, local volunteer attorneys and the Clinton County Domestic Relations and Juvenile courts.

All clinic clients are screened for indigence.

Attorneys interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Wright at 937-382-4559. The next clinic is slated for December.
