Wilmington police officers and Clinton County sheriff’s deputies will dance the jig prior to the Clinton-Massie and Wilmington football game Friday.

The entertainment is a fundraiser for the Clinton County Foster Children’s Trust Fund.

The event will be a pregame show scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The game between the two county rivals is being played in Wilmington.

“The cheerleaders are attempting to teach us,” said Wilmington Police Detective Robert “Bob” Wilson. Clinton-Massie’s Falconettes are expected to dance along with the sheriff’s deputies.

The Clinton County Foster Children’s Trust Fund was established in 2005, and is part of the Clinton County Foundation.

The Foster Children’s Trust Fund was established as an independent charity through the Clinton County Foundation to support the foster children of Clinton County, who are in the custody of the Clinton County Child Protection Unit. This money is utilized to support foster children with items such as sports fees, camps, extra school fees for activities and trips, coping skills tools, Christmas gifts, birthdays, recruitment of foster parents, baby items, and any number of items that are not available with government funding.

These extras help the children gain a sense of normalcy, and reduce any barriers to their adjustment in this hard time in their life.

Clinton County Job and Family Services Director Kathi Spirk said Tuesday, “We are so very grateful to the Wilmington Police Department and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department for their ongoing support and partnerships. They are an instrumental part of our Child Protection team. We are fortunate to have such amazing law enforcement officers who care so much about Clinton County’s abused and neglected children.”

She added, “This should be a fun event highlighting there are children who need help and support, and also the need for foster parents in our community as well.”

Donations will be collected at the game.

For those who won’t be at the game, contributions to the Clinton County Foster Children’s Trust Fund can be made through the Clinton County Foundation located at People’s Bank in downtown Wilmington. Jackie Souder is the agency contact (937-382-0963, ext. 1318) for those who may have questions regarding the Trust Fund.
