Wilmington set for Time Warp as Rocky Horror returns Saturday

WILMINGTON – The Dayton Affair, a group of area Rocky Horror fans, is returning to the Murphy Theatre for another Halloween season showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

Released in 1975, the Rocky Horror Picture Show centers around the strange rescue of a young couple after their car breaks down on a dark and rainy highway. Since its release, the film has developed a cult following among fans, and marks the 13th appearance of the movie at the Murphy since 1979 according to her count, said Theater Director Maretta Alden.

Main Street will be shut down at 10:30 p.m. for the annual “Time Warp” Dance on Main Street.

Dan and Marla Stewart brought A Dayton Affair to The Murphy Theatre after having experienced them in Dayton in 2011 — and the group even helped clean up the theatre afterward.

The traditional annual costume contests will start around 11 p.m. Fabulous prizes for the best Rocky-themed and regular costume categories will be awarded.

A Dayton Affair will be on hand in costume to shadow act on stage during the midnight feature, and to sell movie-related merchandise including t-shirts, magnets, pins, glow sticks and participation scripts.

Ticket prices are $15 each, or $12 for students. To get a good seat and guarantee you can get in, pre-order your tickets at www.themurphytheatre.org or by calling 937-382-3643. In past years the event has come close to selling out, and good seats go fast.

Last year the Murphy Theatre’s annual showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was Friday night (and into Saturday morning). The enthusiastic crowd even danced the Time Warp on Main Street prior to the show.
