Sabina sets cancer awareness blood drive

The SRWW Joint Fire District in Sabina will partner with Community Blood Center in hosting a cancer awareness month blood drive Monday, Oct. 19 from 3-7 p.m. in the training room 179 South Jackson St. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the “Every Donor Makes a Difference – Give Hope, Give Blood” t-shirt. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

The “Make a Difference” campaign supports October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Everyone who registers to donate now through Saturday, Oct. 31 at any CBC Donor Center and most CBC mobile blood drives will receive the “Every Donor Makes a Difference – Give Hope, Give Blood” t-shirt. The design features a “fight cancer” ribbon composed of multi-colored ribbons representing the many types of cancer.

Your donation will help cancer patients and many others in need of blood transfusions and other blood products. We especially encourage the continued support of type O whole blood donors and type A/B platelet and plasma donors.

Hunter Safety Education Course slated

A one-day Ohio Hunter Safety Education Course will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at Cherrybend Pheasant Farm, 2326 Cherrybend Road,Wilmington. Topics covered include conservation, safety and ethics, proper handling of shotguns, handguns, bowhunting and more. Reservation is required. For details contact 937-584-4269 or [email protected].

Energy assistance program begins soon

The Home Energy Assistance Program’s 2015-16 Winter Crisis Program begins Nov. 2. To receive assistance, the household must be at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty guidelines as follows: Household Size & 12 Month Income, 1- $20,597.50, 2- $27,877.50, 3- $35,157.50, 4- $42,437.50, 5- $49,717.50, 6- $56,997.50.

The applicant must also have a disconnect notice or have 25 percent or less of bulk fuel. Applicants will need to bring: Proof of household income for the past three months or 12 months, Social Security numbers for all household members, identification, and heating/electric bills.

Writers Collaborative set for NaNoWriMo

The Wilmington Writers Collaborative will have its next meeting Monday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at 279 South South St., Wilmington. Enjoy and enrich your life with writing! Writers of all genres are welcome to attend – fiction, biography, poetry, essay, short story. They are a fun group that meets monthly to help each other with feedback, commentary and possible future publication. They have group writing prompts and often host guest writers and discuss interesting movies, books and happenings.
