Putman students run for fun, funds

BLANCHESTER — Putman Elementary School students ran in either the one-mile “Pumpkin Run” or the 5K “Zombie Run” on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Blanchester High School.

The events raised $1,600 for two local charities — the Glenn Thompson Food Drive and Blanchester Christmas Toy Drive will each receive $800.

For eight weeks Putman students have been running after school to prepare for these races. Students have worked hard while eating healthy.

“We are extremely thankful for all our volunteers over the past month.Without their help, our program wouldn’t be successful,” said Rachael Thompson, organizer of the events. “We also want to thank the Blanchester Public Library and Laurels of Blanchester for allowing us to visit. Thanks to Shaw Farms for their generous donation of pumpkins and the High School Zombies for cleaning water off the track.”

The top three runners for the boys were Braxton Short, Eddie Shaub and Drew Davenport; the girls’ top three were Chloe Barr, Aisley Czaika and Karlee Williams.
