Wilmington UMC hosts ‘Conversations that Matter’

The Wilmington United Methodist Church will host the second in their monthly series of “Conversations That Matter” from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. This month the topic is diversity as it applies to sexual orientation as well as other subjects. The guest speaker will be Morgana Bailey, who will speak via her recorded TED Talk on the topic of “The Danger of Hiding Who You Are.”

Prior to her TED Talk, Morgana Bailey had been hiding her true self for 16 years. In this brave talk, she utters four words that might not seem like a big deal to some, but to her have been paralyzing. Why speak up? Because she’s realized that her silence has personal, professional and societal consequences. Following the presentation the audience will be encouraged to engage in a structured table talk with a small group of other participants, after which there will be a brief plenary discussion. The community is invited to attend this important discussion.

The Wilmington United Methodist Church is sponsoring “Conversations That Matter” as “part of their ministry to the Clinton County community in hopes that, through dialogue, we will come to know, understand, and love one another as the gospel calls us to do.”

Sabina Christian Women meet

The Oct. 5 meeting of the Sabina Area Christian Women was held at the Sabina Methodist Church. The ladies of the church served a delicious meal prior to the business meeting.

Danielle Combs and Dar Hensley represented Stepping Stones Ranch and explained their goal of maintaining a residential youth ranch helping youth of Clinton County overcome life obstacles. There is a shortage of such programs for older youth. They told of the equine program at the ranch. The ranch is supported mostly by donations and they also welcome volunteers to teach skills such as sewing, cooking, budgeting, etc.

Following their presentation those attending voted to make a donation to the ranch. Among other business a donation was made to Sabina’s Community Christmas basket fund. The Methodist Church will again host the November meeting to be held on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. All area ladies are welcome to attend no matter what your church affiliation may be.
