State park draws scary ‘tourists’

This life-size, realistic figure was one of many Halloween characters populating the Cowan Lake State Park campgrounds over the weekend.

The child on the bicycle didn’t seem overly worried about the tall, mummy-like creature that was spotted this weekend at Cowan Lake State Park.

Stacy Knapp, left, is busy on Friday carving a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern at the Cowan Lake State Park campgrounds. Her activity was during the annual fall weekend campout when campers go all out to decorate their camp sites with Halloween-themed objects. Vikki Knapp, right, of Middletown, is also part of the Knapp family enjoying the get-away. Another family — the Kramer family from Anderson Township — was expecting to welcome 35 members to the campgrounds, a longstanding autumn tradition for them.

This character talks to passersby, as he refers to a book with the title “Dark Magic.”

One gets the impression a carriage ride with this driver could be a one-way trip.
