Suspect in custody in Hillsboro Walmart armed robbery

HILLSBORO — One suspect was in custody and being questioned by police Thursday afternoon in connection with an apparent armed robbery at the Hillsboro Walmart that occurred earlier in the week, according to the chief of police.

Hillsboro Police Chief Darrin Goudy declined to release a name Thursday, but said police were conducting investigative interviews to gain further information in the case.

“We’re in the process of interviewing and getting more information so we can continue the investigation,” Goudy said.

Two cartons of cigarettes were the only items reported stolen in the robbery on Sunday, during which two men, one of whom allegedly brandished a firearm, entered Walmart on Harry Sauner Road and took the cigarettes from the bullpen area where tobacco products are sold, according to police.

As reported earlier, the men allegedly entered the store at around 10:40 p.m. with their faces obscured.

No injuries were reported, according to the chief.

The police department posted surveillance photos of the suspects on its Facebook page on Tuesday, and asked the public for tips.

Goudy told The Times-Gazette that the department received some “really good leads.”

Anyone with more information about the robbery or the suspects is asked to contact the Hillsboro Police Department.

The police department can be reached by phone at 937-393-3411.

No further information was immediately available on Thursday.
