Lenten lunches at Wilmington UMC to start Wednesday, Feb. 14

WILMINGTON — Starting next week the Wilmington United Methodist Church will once again serve lunch on Wednesdays during Lent, from Feb. 14 to March 28.

Begun in 1990, the popular lunches are served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church building at 50 East Locust Street in downtown Wilmington.

Meals are available for eating in, carry-out, or delivery to local homes and offices. Call the church after 9 a.m. at 937-382-1465 and ask for the kitchen to place your order. If weather causes the Wilmington City Schools to be closed, the Lenten lunch will not be served that day.

Proceeds from the $7 donations for the meals go to the Wilmington U.M. Women for Missions.

The community is invited to come and enjoy the good food and fellowship.

Menus are subject to change, but are scheduled to be as follows:

Feb. 14 — crusted salmon patties or chopped sirloin, cheesy pasta, glazed carrots, roll and butter, and fruit pie

Feb. 21 — glazed meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, buttered corn, roll and butter, and brownie

Feb. 28 — chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, roll and butter, and Texas sheet cake

March 7 — glazed pork loin, hash brown potato casserole, California blend vegetables in butter sauce, roll and butter, and apple crisp

March 14 — turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, classic green bean casserole, roll and butter, and pumpkin dessert

March 21 — roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn casserole, roll and butter, and frosted cake

March 28 — ham and au gratin potatoes, mixed vegetables, roll and butter, and angel food cake with fruit topping
