BLANCHESTER — Residents want to see the local cemetery in better condition.
Issues at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery include tire tracks and mounds of dirt around tombstones in addition to downed tree limbs.
After several social media posts were made about these conditions, followed by TV coverage, local residents are stepping up to help.
Kenneth Green, who volunteers at the cemetery, believes a lot of the issues are due to weather conditions. He recently put a post on the Facebook group Blanchester Area Volunteer Group asking for volunteers.
“I think it’s time to get together out at the cemetery again. Let’s hear some scheduling ideas,” the post said.
A few users have responded wanting to help.
Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt told the News Journal that this has been an ongoing issue for the village.
“I’ve been here 11 years, and I can recall prior complaints about (the cemetery) making their way around town,” said Reinbolt. “I think at one point there was an effort to get the Marion Township Trustees to take it over, which never went anywhere.”
