WILMINGTON — Nancy Reeves received the 2018 American Legion Educator of the Year Award Veterans Post 49.
Nancy has been teaching eighth-grade Social Studies at East Clinton Middle School for 27 years. She is a Master Teacher and Teacher Leader at East Clinton Middle School.
Nancy is a kind, creative and sincere educator. She maintains a positive relationship with parents and fosters a strong school-to-home connection through the use of phone calls and emails. Nancy is always helpful and supportive of her students. Her rapport with children is natural and instinctive.
Nancy’s willingness to be a lifelong learner is the role model we strive to demonstrate to our students. Nancy is not opposed to dressing in character, playing hip-hop or rap music to engage her students in the lesson.
Officer Neil Rager is the American Legion Post 49 Officer of the Year. He is a Clinton-Massie High School graduate. After high school he began serving his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving from 1987 to 1995. He was deployed in December 1990 to May of 1991 in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During that time he earned the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal.
After returning home, Sgt. Rager began his career at Sabina Police Department and then came to the Wilmington Police Department in 1995. Sgt. Rager is a two-time officer of the year for our department. He earned this distinction first in 2009 and again in 2011.
Sgt. Rager has worked diligently as a patrol officer handling various calls for service to protect and serve our community. He was quickly assigned to the SWAT team and maintained that position until two years ago. Sgt. Rager was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2014 and has done an exceptional job as a patrol sergeant, working hard keeping the community safe as well as the department.
Sgt. Rager also volunteers in the community. He is a regular in our charity basketball games with Clinton County MRDD. He has been seen at skate nights at the park and has been actively involved in our police night out event at the park.
He is active in his church and has spent time volunteering as a coach for sports.
