Kids, adults benefit from new Blanchester playground, exercise equipment

BLANCHESTER — Veterans Memorial Park has some new additions.

After two years of planning, Blanchester Parks and Recreation has installed the new playground and workout centers they’ve wanted. Parks and Rec Secretary Tina Fischer told the News Journal she was happy to see this finally happen.

“A lot of people have already been using it. There’s a lot of moms out here, especially,” she said. “People have even been using them before we took the caution tape down.”

She explained the exercise equipment was the main reason she went with the project, and that had been a long-term goal for them.

The equipment is adjacent to the new playground — kids can play on the playground and parents can use the workout equipment while keeping an eye on their child.

The new equipment was made possible by a $40,000 grant that fully funded the project from the Capital Improvement Budget Bill. The Capital Budget earmarked $6.04 million for Clinton County projects, including $3 million for Wilmington Air Park aviation-related uses.

Fischer gives a lot of credit to former Wilmington Parks & Rec Director Lori Williams for her help with the project, mainly in getting the paperwork together.

In addition to the playground and workout equipment, the park also got two charcoal grills placed at the shelter area.

The next big project for Blanchester Parks & Rec is replacing the playground at the Village Municipal Building. They recently submitted an Ohio Department of Natural Resource Nature Works grant to do this.
