Noland grad of USAF basic

U.S. Air Force National Guard Airman 1st Class Mason Noland graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Noland is a 2016 graduate of Wilmington High School.

5K at Cowan Lake to benefit veterans

Victory for Veterans 5K is at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Cowan Lake State Park. All proceeds benefit homeless veterans through Volunteers of America.

Sponsored by American Showa, cost to register is $25 for 5K walk-run; registering by Sept. 24 guarantees you a t-shirt and entry to post-race breakfast. Start time is 9 a.m.

Also, $10 for each of kids 50-yard sprint (ages 3-5) and kids 100-yard dash (ages 6-10).
