WILMINGTON — The Wilmington High School Class of 1953 met Aug. 3 at the General Denver Hotel to celebrate their 65th anniversary. There were 25 attending including 13 class members and 12 spouses and guests.
Patricia Grove Matthews welcomed everyone and shared information about members who were unable to attend. She had correspondence with Nancy Brown Dodds, Richard Kellough, Sue Calvert Coughlin, and Barbara Joan Marts Fox, Shirley Borton Burton, and Barbara Richardson Hasler.
Marvin Barrett thanked the committee for arranging everything and also had information the committee for arranging everything and also had information concerning Blaine Downing, who was unable to attend.
Lou Ann Poorman Lind gave the blessing after which a delicious lunch was served. Everyone enjoyed a beautifully decorated cake for dessert.
Lou Ann and Patricia gave a two-part reading entitled Gordon’s Pizza (Google Pizza) which was telling us how much Google knows about us in today’s technological world we live in. Everyone enjoyed a good laugh.
Lou Ann gave a beautiful remembrance and prayer for the 53 deceased class members.
After an afternoon of visiting and talking about times gone by, the class members walked to the Murphy Theatre where Jennifer Hollon conducted a tour and gave us information about the recent renovation of the theater.
Many of us recalled the many times we attended movies and “The Best is Yet to Come” shows there during our high school years.
