Fire strikes Westboro home in Clinton County

WESTBORO — There are no injuries, but a two-story house is severely damaged after a mid-day Thursday blaze.

Three adults and two juvenile children reside at the house on the corner of Valley Street and Lynchburg Road in Westboro. But nobody was inside the structure when the fire broke out, said Martinsville/Clark Township Fire Department Capt. Ryan Mobley.

When the Martinsville/Clark Township Fire Department arrived at the scene, the structure was fully involved by fire, Mobley said.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced occupants.

There reportedly are two pet dogs at the property, and both are believed to have made it out, though one possibly may have run off or was hiding, onlookers said.

At the time of the interview with Mobley, firefighters had not gone inside to look at the extent of the damage or determine the cause because it wasn’t safe yet to go in, said the fire captain.

Mobley, however, does not expect to find contents that can be salvaged.

In addition to the Martinsville/Clark Twp. Fire Department, also providing assistance at the scene were the Blanchester-Marion Township Fire District, the Jefferson Township Fire Department, the Lynchburg Fire Department, and the Fayetteville Fire Department.

Though at least part of the structure appears to consist of concrete material, damage to the house is extensive.
